The Oompa-Loompas were first introduced in Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” as enslaved African Pygmies who worked in Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. However, in later editions of the book, Dahl changed their ethnicity to make them fictional creatures from Loompaland.
