Patrick George Troughton (/ ˈ t r aʊ t ən /; 25 March 1920 – 28 March 1987) was an English actor best known for his roles in television and film. He played the second incarnation of the Doctor in the long-running British science-fiction television series Doctor Who from 1966 to 1969; he reprised the role in 1972–1973, 1983 and 1985.

Patrick George Troughton (born 25 March 1920 in Mill Hill, London, died 28 March 1987 in Columbus, Georgia) played the Second Doctor from 1966 until 1969, beginning with an uncredited appearance at the conclusion of The Tenth Planet, continuing from The Power of the Daleks to The War Games.
He won his most famous role as the second Doctor in Doctor Who (1963), in 1966 and played the role for three years. His hobbies included golf, sailing and fishing. He was a father of six (David, Jane, Joanna, Mark, Michael and Peter), a stepfather to Gill and Graham and a grandfather to Harry Melling, Jamie and Sam Troughton.
