Rankin began his tenure at Poly in 1985 as a member of the English faculty, eventually becoming department chair. During his time at the school, he has been advisor to the award-winning school newspaper, The Polygon, and was twice named a New York State outstanding teacher. He has also served as academic dean and assistant head of school.
