Roy Richard Scheider (/ ˈ ʃ aɪ d ər /; November 10, 1932 – February 10, 2008) was an American actor and amateur boxer. Described by AllMovie as "one of the most unique and distinguished of all Hollywood actors", [1] he gained fame for his leading and supporting roles in celebrated films from the 1970s through to the early to mid-1980s.
Apr 15, 2024 · On February 10, 2008, he died while at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock, where he had been undergoing treatment at the hospital's Myeloma Institute for Research and Treatment for two years. His wife Brenda Siemer told The New York Times the cause of death was "complications from a staph infection."
