Selma Diamond. Actress. Born in London, Ontario, Canada, she grew up in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from New York University while supporting herself selling stories and cartoons to the New Yorker Magazine. She broke into radio as a writer for NBC's The Big Show.
Diamond died of lung cancer on May 13, 1985, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, aged 64, with no known survivors. [3] She was buried in Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City , Los Angeles County, California.

The diminutive Diamond, who was a chain smoker, was one of the original cast of Night Court until she was stricken with lung cancer and died at age 64 in Los Angeles. Coincidentally, her successor playing the female bailiff, Florence Halop, died of lung cancer after one year on the cast of Night Court.
