     You need to specify a * after second [0-9] to match zero or more digits. In addition to one digit numbers, this will also fail to match more than two digit numbers. Correct regular expression is ^[1-9][0-9]*.

     I point to an outdated article for purposes of people testing this for themselves. The DOM methods actually beat out the innerHTML on all of my machines so that is what I prefer. However, at the time of the article innerHTML was faster on avg. Currently the difference can only be seen in huge datasets drastically.

     I recommend to learn javascript first, because:

     • jQuery is a javascript library so it's based on javascript
     • I'm not getting along with "pure" jQuery instructions, so you'll always need to know javascript basics to do the job
     • shouldn't be a big deal to learn the javascript basics

     They're not mutually exclusive.

     JavaScript is client-side programming (DOM manipulation, effects, AJAX).

     C# is server-side programming (database communication, OO, external services, etc).

     You should learn both. (and ASP.NET MVC while your at it).
