He studied English Language and Literature at Brown University, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. His favorite authors were those of 1920’s and 30’s high modern literature, among them Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Joyce, Eliot, Hughes, and Faulkner. Yet, when he wrote, his prose was increasingly cinematic.
