Jun 7, 2016 · Behold the bassist born Klaus Karl Kassbaum, aka Nick St. Nicholas who, early in his career, worked the pocket for such ensembles as The Mynah Birds (Rick James, Neil Young), and Jack London and The Sparrows, among others. However it was his tenure anchoring Steppenwolf which cemented his legend, replaced bassist Rushton Moreve in late ’68.
After Kay disbanded Steppenwolf, former members Goldy McJohn and Nick St. Nicholas formed a "revival act" called "New Steppenwolf". McJohn did not last long, but St. Nicholas continued with the venture for several years.
1968: Band lineup changes begin, with the departure of Moreve, first replaced by Nick St. Nicholas, who was supplanted by Geoge Biondo in 1970. Monarch left the band in 1969, replaced by Larry Byrom and later by Kent Henry. "Steppenwolf was always kind of a work in progress," says Kay.
