Mystery Castle is located in the city of Phoenix, Arizona, in the foothills of South Mountain Park. It was built in the 1930s by Boyce Luther Gulley for his daughter Mary Lou Gulley.
Built by a father to realize his daughter's dream, this three-story castle, completed in 1945, is made of stone, adobe, automobile parts and petroglyphs and is held together by a cement mixture including goat's milk. Take a tour - usually led by the daughter, who still lives there - of this odd, yet imaginative dwelling.

Oct 30, 2017 · Tucked away in the foothills of Phoenix’ South Mountain Park is a strange castle a man built all by himself out of rocks and scrap materials. It’s call Mystery Castle, and it has quite the interesting and mysterious history.

- A castle made of recycled materials. The Mystery Castle was made with an assortment of building materials like recycled car parts and plow discs. It was also constructed with traditional building supplies like stone and cement.
- The castle was for his daughter. According to mymysterycastle.com Gulley got the idea to build a castle in the desert from his daughter Mary Lou. The castle’s website notes that Gulley recalled memories of him and his daughter building sand castles on the beach together in Seattle.
- It was actually a home. Mary Lou and her mother moved in shortly after Gulley died in 1945. Mary Lou called the 8,000-square-foot Mystery Castle home until she passed away in 2010.

The Mystery Castle can be found at 800 E Mineral Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85042. You can get to the castle by the 7 and 16 buses, both of which stop at Dobbins Rd & 7th St which is about 15 minutes walk from the castle. Parking is available on site and is free of charge to visitors.
