- Season 5 (2008) Number of episodes: 10. If The Wire has any weak link, it's the fifth and final season. That said, season 5 isn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination, just short and a bit extreme.
- Season 3 (2004) Number of episodes: 12. Season 3 of The Wire is arguably the show's turning point, adding City Hall into the mix with the introduction of Tommy Carcetti.
- Season 1 (2002) Number of episodes: 13. Season 1 is notoriously difficult to get into, and the first few episodes expect viewers to pay an extreme amount of attention early on lest they fall behind.
- Season 2 (2003) Number of episodes: 12. Pushing the Barksdale Organization and the drug war into the background, season 2 centers itself on Baltimore’s dockyard, now specifically focusing on the logistics of the drug trade (along with deeper levels of organization crime & human trafficking.)

- Middle Ground. Season 3, Episode 11. The scene between Stringer Bell and Avon Barksdale is one of the perfect moments in The Wire, watching two friends reminisce about old times as they both begin to realize a permanent wedge has been placed between them.
- Final Grades. Season 4, Episode 13. The Wire has some spectacular finales, and "Final Grades" sees the conclusion of the middle school boys' arcs, with each of them moving forward in their lives in drastically different directions.
- Boys Of Summer. Season 4, Episode 1. Season 4 took The Wire in a new direction, deciding to explore the characters at a local school, resulting in less time spent on the ongoing investigation.
- 30- Season 5, Episode 10. The Wire season 5 wasn't the best, primarily due to the McNulty serial-killer arc which many viewers found to be too far-fetched for the show.
- Final Grades (season 4, episode 13) The Wire season four is not just the show’s best season, but possibly the best season in television history. Its conclusion should be considered a masterpiece.
