New York Times Mathison voted for Chocolate. Had Canzoneri, a former Featherweight champion, made 130 lbs for this bout, he would have been awarded Kid Chocolate's Jr. Lightweight title as well and would then have become the first four-division champion in history.

Tony Canzoneri was an American professional boxer who is widely hailed as one of the greatest fighters of his time. Born on November 6, 1908, in Slidell, Louisiana, Canzoneri was a three-division world champion who held a total of five world titles.
Canzoneri participated in 259 title-bout rounds and became boxing's third three-division champion. He turned pro in 1925 at the age of 16. He fought to a drew with Bud Taylor for the vacant NBA bantamweight title in 1927 and lost a rematch to Taylor in June.
