     If your web app can talk to the database correctly, the problem isn't with the sql server or with your connection string, operating system, or what have you.

     Make sure that SQL Management Studio is pointed at the correct instance of SQL Server Express on your box: see this thread on msdn social

     Maybe I'm just crazy, but why don't you just press Shift + Tab instead of backspace if you want to get rid of the tabs?

     Well in VS2005 with a C++ project, and VS2008 with a C# project assigning a shortcut worked for me.

     Steps:

     • open tools -> options -> environment - > keyboard
     • in 'show commands ..' enter 'build.r'
     • select 'Build.RebuildSolution'
     • in 'Press shortcut keys:' press Ctrl+M, Ctrl+B
     • press 'Assign'
     • The combo appears in the "Shortcuts for selected command:" combo as global
     • press 'Ok'

     then press combo, and watch solution rebuild.

     For both versions, having the current file in focused as a non-project did not affect the shortcut, as I thought it might.

     SourceSafe is a Software Configuration Management tool from Microsoft, and is not required. I WOULD recommend using some form of SCM, but flavor is a matter of preference.

     If the pop-ups are annoying to you and you would like to disable them, then removing the SourceSafe bindings from the project should stop them.

     Solution:1 - Go to the folder containing the solution files and delete the following: mssccprj.scc MyProject.vssscc vssver.scc2 - Open MyProject.sln in your favorite text editor and remove the following section: GlobalSection(SourceCodeControl) = preSolution ... EndGlobalSection3 - Go to the folder containing the project files and delete the following: MyProject.vbproj.vspscc mssccprj.scc vssver.scc4 - Open MyProject.vbproj in your text editor and remove the following lines: SccProjectName = "SAK" SccLocalPath = "SAK" SccAuxPath = "SAK" SccProvider = "SAK"Now you can open the solution/project with no source control errors.

     As far as the class goes, if you're already familiar with ASP/VBScript, you can probably pick up a C# class and figure out the rest. If not, I would suggest going for an ASP focused class that utilizes a C# back-end.
