The finish on the body is this thick plastic coat, and the shape isn't the most comfortable. The shape, however, varies for each different guitar model that they make. Here's an idea for the DIY guitarists: cut out a shape that's more comfortable. On the topic of First Act acoustics: I haven't played one, but heard the quality varies drastically.

Everything has a beginning... a spark that sets a series of events into motion. In this case that spark was a visit to the First Act Guitar Studio in Boston, Massachusetts in July of 2007. The events over the next 16 months resulted in the creation of the very first 12-string bass ever built by First Act.
Although First Act is known for its imported entry level guitars it established a custom shop in Boston in 2002. It was managed by Jimmy Archey and head luthier John McGuire. Alongside a team of builders, they made guitars for artists including the The Cure, Maroon 5, Paul McCartney, Drive-By Truckers, Mastodon, Ministry, Aerosmith, and Bon Jovi.
