May 11, 2024 · That change was followed by incorporation of Rye as a village in 1904 and as a city in 1942. As a result of those changes, the territory of the Town of Rye now contains two villages – Port Chester and Rye Brook – and the Rye Neck section of the village of Mamaroneck. They had their first Jewish Sunday School at a large home on Forest Avenue, and then established a congregation under the name Community Synagogue in 1949, purchasing seven acres and a building known as Villa Aurora on Forest Avenue.

Oct 13, 2014 · The memory of this episode, long known as Harrison’s Purchase, persists today in the name of Purchase Street, which runs from Rye to the Purchase section of Harrison. This adverse decision caused the residents of the Town of Rye to secede from New York and join their former colony of Connecticut where they remained from 1697 to 1700.
