      • This is the type 911/01 with A-GA-O-V-ZA gears, and applies to both 1970 & 1971. If you build more than 11,000 transmissions of one type in a year and you have only 4 digits for serial #, then you need a second series; so 710xxxx becomes 770xxxx and 711xxxx becomes 771xxxx.

    Probable Transmission number: 710xxxx or 770xxxx. 7 = Transmission for 6-cylinder engine. 1 or 7 = 5-speed, standard ratio, Type 911/01. 0 = Model year 1970. xxxx = Sequential number. Serial# 711 is from a 1971. Looks like this 1970 is not a match.

  6. In the 911 T, a magnesium housing accommodated the five-speed manual transmission plus reverse gear. Porsche has switched between aluminium and magnesium housings since the 1970s, depending on model. The 911 T has a light, filigree housing with pronounced ribs for cooling and rigidity. It is quite a beautiful sight for technology connoisseurs.

Clutches used in these cars were the 215mm unit used from 65-69 and the 225mm unit used from 70 to 71.
