Just recently started playing the java version and noticed axes do more damage then swords and when you jump attack it does more damage. I know that the sword has sweeping edge and can hit more enemies at once, but with the jump attack the skill is useless.

Each time you enchant or repair an item in the anvil, it accumulates a "prior work penalty" which adds to the cost to do any future anvil enchantment or repair. If the total cost is 40 levels or more, you get the "too expensive" message.
