Homage to the Square is the title of a series of paintings produced by Josef Albers between 1950 and his death in 1976. In 1971, the paintings were the subject of the first solo show devoted to a living artist at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There are over 1000 works within the series.

Beginning the series in 1950, at age 62, Albers was to produce more than a thousand Homage paintings and prints, in four different formats.
Albers constructed his Homages by laying paint as thinly as possible with a palette knife directly onto a white ground. Paint generally came straight from the tube, and the edges of the squares were painted without masking tape.
