Lyon’s third district is located in the eastern part of the city, on the left bank of the Rhône, between the 6th district and Villeurbanne to its North and the 7th district and the 8th district to its South. The 3rd district is also adjacent to the city of Bron to the east.
Situated on the northern part of the natural island known as the Presqu'ile (between the Rhone and Saone rivers), the area lies south of the Croix-Rousse neighborhood (4th arrondissement); Old Lyon and Fourviere lie to the southwest as you can see in Lyon neighborhoods map.
Oullins is known for its horticultural tradition and has several parks and gardens. The most notable of these is the Jardin Botanique de Lyon, founded in 1857 and one of France’s most extensive botanical gardens. Other landmarks in Oullins include the Church of Saint-Martin, the Tour du Guin, and the Château de l’Isle.

Located just east of the Presque'ile across the Rhone, the area is often considered Lyon's second city center and is home to the busy Part-Dieu train station .
