- CAT PEOPLE (1942/1982) Val Lewton and Jacques Tourneur were creating peerless Gothic horror movie magic back in the 40s. Straight up, if this chillingly atmospheric swimming pool scene with its brilliant use of light and shadow weren’t exacted so exemplary, the rest of the this list may very well cease to exist.
