Hanunoo (IPA:), also rendered Hanunó'o, is one of the scripts indigenous to the Philippines and is used by the Mangyan peoples of southern Mindoro to write the Hanunó'o language.

The Hanunó'o script is used to write love songs or ʼambāhan, and also for correspondence. About 70% of the Hanunó'o are able to read and write their language, and there is at least one person in each family who is literate. The script is also known as Mangyan Baybayin or Surat Mangyan.
In 1974, Postma theorized the Mangyan scripts were already part of their culture when they settled down in Mindoro (p.197). It was believed, based on oral traditions that the scripts (Hanunuo & Buhid) were brought by them when they migrated to Mindoro from the south (presumably from Malaysia or Indonesia).

Nov 4, 2023 · Hanunuo Mangyans tend to drop the descriptor “hanunuo” within their communities, and refer to themselves and their language as “Mangyan.” Of the eight groups of Mangyan listed above, only the Hanunuo and the Buhid from the southern part of Mindoro Island have attested writing systems.
These ambahans with seven syllables per line and rhyming end-syllables were written in the Mangyans’ pre-Spanish syllabic writing systems, thus preventing both from becoming extinct and forgotten. Dutch Anthropologist and Linguist Antoon Postma documented the Hanunuo Mangyan ambahan extensively.
