Miracle Beach Park was previously privately owned by Mr. Frank Pottage. In 1950, the BC government purchased 57 hectares of land from Mr. Pottage, and Miracle Beach Class “A” Park was established.
Chicago’s first public beach opened in 1895 at Lincoln Park. Prior to that, beaches were owned by hotels, clubs and other private enterprises, and typically frequented by wealthy, upper-class residents.
The provincial government officially established the Miracle Beach Provincial Park as a Class A park with 57 ha (140 acres) in 1950 with Order-in-Council 2259. The following year, an additional 35 ha (86 acres) south of the park was purchased from Pottage and added to the park.
