Clan Macdonald of Clanranald, also known as Clan Ranald ( Scottish Gaelic: Clann Raghnaill [ˈkʰl̪ˠãũn̪ˠ ˈrˠɤ̃ː.ɪʎ] ), [1] is a Highland Scottish clan and a branch of Clan Donald, one of the largest Scottish clans. The founder of the Macdonalds of Clanranald is Reginald, 4th great-grandson of Somerled.

Ranald MacDonald was the eponymous ancestor of the MacDonalds of Clanranald and the MacDonells of Glengarry. He was a son of John MacDonald, Lord of the Isles (d. 1386), and his first wife Amie MacRory. John granted Ranald the lands of Garmoran, which he had acquired through his marriage to Amie.
