This quirky off-Broadway play was, after all, about a man-eating plant. In this song, the protagonist watches on as an abusive dentist accidentally asphyxiates himself on nitrous oxide.
The Evil Dead was made with amateur actors on a shoestring budget and doesn't take itself too seriously. There are comedic elements but it's not trying to be a comedy, unlike its sequels. So, although you can find a movie funny, the original intent determines if it should be classified as a "comedy".

Now to explain that, yes the original was an amazing cheesy b-movie and set a new precedent for horror films. However in terms of actual filmmaking, it's honestly not very good at all. Blood tubes just sticking out, studio lights all over the woods, crew members awkwardly popping up in the background,etc.
