  4. For a history paper, citing the encyclopedia Britannica for something that happened in a western Caucasian culture is probably pretty solid, but trying to understand the impact of British rule over colonial India would more properly be studied using more local texts to get all of the context.

  5. Encyclopedias tend to basic, basic info. That said, they do sometimes contain biases that show up particularly as they age and social norms change. Good on you for wanting sources, even from the encyclopedia, but the encyclopedia is considered a source in itself.

  6. FYI the Encyclopedia Britannica would not be an acceptable academic source in most contexts either. EB and Wikipedia are both very useful, for slightly different purposes, but neither is intended for academic use. They are instead used to quickly find general information about a broad range of topics.
