  1. Jan 7, 2024 · As you probably know if you’re considering a trip, Sausalito is a charming, picturesque town located in Marin County, California, just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. It is famous for its stunning views of the Bay Area, its unique bohemian culture, and its vibrant arts scene.

    • Admire the View from the Sausalito Ferry. To be honest, one of the best things to do in Sausalito begins before you even arrive: as most people arrive in Sausalito by ferry (or depart that way if they choose to ride bikes across the Golden Gate Bridge to reach Sausalito), admiring the picturesque views of the city as the boat pulls up is a must-do.
    • Stroll Along Bridgeway Promenade. Okay, here’s another thing to clear up: there is no single “Sausalito boardwalk” to walk along during your visit to Sausalito.
    • See the San Francisco Bay Model. Can I be totally honest: I’ve never actually been to the Bay Model myself. I moved to Sausalito right before the pandemic began, and it was closed for most of the time since – I just haven’t had the chance to visit yet.
    • Visit the Sausalito Visitor Center. After being closed for several years, the Sausalito Visitor Center & Historical Society has finally reopened! After renovations, it’s well worth a visit during your time in Sausalito (now more than ever!)
    • You Need to Cross The Bay
    • It Can Get Busy During High-Tourist Traffic Times
    • You Can Fit A Lot Into A Quick Trip
    • It’S Warmer Than SF, But Bring Layers
    • Come Hungry!

Whether by driving over the bridge or sailing under it, you must cross The Bay to get to Sausalito. There are several modes of transportation to get there, and each comes with its pros and cons. But once you reach Sausalito, you won’t need anything to get to many of the best spots. Thanks to the proximity of the tourist spots, the town is easily na...

There is no wrong time to visit Sausalito! Just know you’ll see more crowds during the summer, holidays, and weekends. One of the best parts about Sausalito is while the busy tourist season can bring in bigger crowds, the influx of people never feels overwhelming. For visitors who travel by car, it may mean having a tough time finding a place to pa...

Other San Francisco day trips may require significant time to get the whole experience, but Sausalito doesn’t need to be a big time commitment. While you can dedicate a whole day to exploring Sausalito, you don’t need the entire day to take in the best of it. If you have limited time in San Francisco, even a long lunch in Sausalito would be well wo...

One of the benefits Sausalito boasts is being several degrees warmer and much sunnier than even right across The Bay. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its fair share of weather mood swings. We don’t recommend putting all of your eggs in the “good weather” basket! Sausalito can experience fog and cold weather like San Francisco, even in the sum...

Thanks to the navigability of Sausalito, you have several excellent choices right at your fingertips. Finding something delicious for a nice snack break doesn’t take much time or energy. While you can bring your food to save a little time, exploring the shops and restaurants in the area is a part of the fun when visiting Sausalito.

    • Battery Spencer Trail. Battery Spencer Trail is hands down one of the best viewpoints of the Golden Gate Bridge and the perfect location to add to your Sausalito day trip.
    • Stroll Downtown Sausalito. When you think of Sausalito, downtown is the area you are most likely imagining. It is the heart of Sausalito. After your exhilarating hike at Battery Spencer Trail, it is less than a 10-minute drive to the quaint and charming downtown of Sausalito.
    • Shop at Downtown Sausalito Shops. The main area of shops is on the bustling waterfront area on Bridgeway Street. Most of these shops are owned and operated by locals from the Sausalito community.
    • Enjoy Some Sweets at the Sausalito Bakery & Cafe. Grab a pick-me-up and some delicious baked goods from the Sausalito Bakery & Cafe. You can either sit outside and enjoy the views of the Bay or take it on the go as you browse the local nearby shops.
    • Shopping Sausalito Downtown. Downtown Sausalito is so dang so cute and charming! Here you can winding streets with boutiques, nautical shops, crafts, clothing and more!
    • Ice Cream at Lappert’ss. Lappert’s Ice Cream is the most popular ice cream shop in town and it’s probably due to their unique flavors (like Ube!) Grab a cone and take a stroll along the docks while looking at sailboats.
    • Look At Houseboats. On the note of sailboats, I love these little floating homes and sailboats. (They are the most popular free Sausalito attractions!)
    • Hiking in Marin Headlands. I adore the Marin Headlands! If you love nature, hit the trails! A lot of California visitors want to do a day trip to Muir Woods and you *may* be tempted to do one during your Sausalito visit, but save Muir Woods national monument for another time.
