Camden's History. Camden County is home to a population of approximately 9,682 persons, according to the US Census Bureau (2008 Estimate), and is comprised of about 241 square miles. It is located in the North Carolina Coastal Plain between Currituck County and Pasquotank & Gates Counties.
Camden County, located in the Coastal Plain region of northeastern North Carolina and bordered in part by the state of Virginia and Albemarle Sound, was formed in 1777 from Pasquotank County and named for Sir Charles Pratt, earl of Camden, in gratitude for the support he gave to the colonists.
Coordinates: 36°19′30″N 76°10′12″W. Camden is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Camden County, North Carolina, United States. It is the county seat of Camden County, a consolidated city-county. As of the 2010 census, the Camden town had a population of 599. [3]
