The Winterthur Garden is built out of the fields, streams, hills, and woodlands of the beautiful Brandywine Valley. After gardening at Winterthur for almost 70 years, du Pont was awarded with Garden Club of America Medal of Honor in 1956.
Winterthur's 1,000 acres encompass rolling hills, streams, meadows, and forests. Founder Henry Francis du Pont (1880-1969) developed an appreciation of nature as a boy that served as the basis for his life's work in the garden.
