Over the years, I’ve learned a few tricks that make it easier to identify vegetable seedlings. I especially love using these techniques when I’m growing something new! My secret weapons are 1) wide garden beds, 2) planting the width of a bed and 3) using mulch.

Vegetable Plant Identification from Seed to Seedling. How do you tell if what comes up in your garden is what you planted? Is it the vegetable you wanted or is it a weed that will compete for water, space, and nutrients? How can you tell what the seedling is supposed to look like?
Then lift the seedling carefully by its leaves, and drop it into the hole. Carefully fill the hole with compost, and press it round the seedling gently. If the seedlings are small, you should lift them out of their old pot using something like an old fork or screwdriver, and drop them into the hole.
