The movie is better than the book IMO, because it's simply a narrative tale of McCandless's stupidty thinking he could hike into the wilds of Alaska by himself. The book is unbearabe because it tries to justify Chris's behavior and tries to play the devil's avcoate far too often. The movie is still worth a watch due to the performances.

Movie rating: 4 (ish)/5. This was required reading for me in grade 12 as our novel study even though it’s nonfiction. Tbh, I didn’t enjoy it all that much.
I also don't remember the college graduation scene in the movie in the book. One of the most major differences I can think of right off the bat is that unlike the movie showing Kristin Stewart as his girlfriend on the road, Chris did not have a girlfriend while he was on the road or at all, really.
