Feb 1, 2018 · Jan (Johannes) Evangelista Purkinje ( Fig. 1) was born on 17 December 1787 in Libochovice Castle, which is in the Czech Republic. His father, Josef Purkinje, was an administrative and economic supervisor for the estate of Prince Dietrichstein, and Purkinje was the first son born to him and his wife, Rosalie (née Safranek).
