    Tisdell was born in Denver, Colorado, and was an all-star basketball player at Aurora Central High School. Because of his success in the sport, he accepted a full basketball scholarship to play at the Northwestern State University of Louisiana, but was intent on becoming a child psychologist. His career path changed at the beginning of his senior year of high school; after attending an open house, Tisdell was asked to move to New York City, New York, to pursue a modeling career.

    After receiving his psychology degree and pursuing a short stint in professional basketball, Tisdell decided to accept the offer. He began working at the renowned Tupu Kweli Theatre Company in Harlem, New York. There, Tisdell developed an interest for acting. Throughout his acting career, he starred in numerous national commercials; Broadway-bound plays; TV shows such as OZ, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Criminal Minds (in which he portrayed drug dealer-turned-spree killer Rodney Harris); and independent and studio films like Brown Sugar.

    Tisdell portrayed mentally-unstable drug dealer-turned-spree killer Rodney Harris in the Season Two episode "Profiler Profiled". He reprised the role in the Season Eight episode "Restoration".
