The Sicilian Girl (Italian: La siciliana ribelle) is a 2008 Italian film directed by Marco Amenta. The film is inspired by the story of Rita Atria, a key witness in a major Mafia investigation in Sicily.
Inspired to a true story, on November 5th 1991, Rita Atria a young 17-year-old Sicilian girl, goes to see an anti-Mafia judge Paolo Borsellino to denounce the Mafia system that was responsible for the murder of her father and her brother.
She grows up believing that her father is an "old school" man of honor, who has earned the respect of the Sicilian populace through his "even-handed" handling of disputes. When a landlord kills a peasant and then short-changes workers on a farm, Michele attempts to have him treat the peasants decently.
