Our Town is a three-act play written by American playwright Thornton Wilder in 1938. Described by Edward Albee as "the greatest American play ever written", [1] it presents the fictional American town of Grover's Corners between 1901 and 1913 through the everyday lives of its citizens.

Act 1 presents an ordinary day in the life of the town. Act 2 carries the story forward with the courtship and marriage of George Gibbs (Robby Benson, who is fine but struggles slightly with a New England accent) and Emily Webb (the luminous Glynnis O'Connor).
It's a man's town, a traditional space, a slice of old Americana. Very strong performances from Ned Beatty and Barbara Bel Geddes, but the whole cast do well under George Schaefer's direction.
