CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Cancer biologist Piyush Gupta joins the Whitehead Institute faculty in September on a mission to shed new light on the mechanisms that determine why some cells in our bodies behave appropriately while others venture down destructive, malignant paths.
“I wouldn’t have thought it possible that these tissues could grow with such complexity and to such a size,” says Whitehead Member Piyush Gupta, who is also an assistant professor of biology at MIT. “It’s really quite remarkable.”
Piyush Gupta received the Bachelor of Technology degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, in 1993, the Master of Science degree in computer science and automation from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in 1996, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2000.
