Burch took great pride in farming and cattle raising and operated the 640 acres of land that his grandfather, Col. William Matison Biggs purchased from the Ocoee Land Grant Office in 1841. Burch enjoyed two careers, farming and public service. Between 1904 and 1945, he served 15 years as Sheriff of Polk County.
