- Syrie Maugham (1879-1955) was a British women’s interior designer who was very popular in the 1920s and 1930s. Known as the “Princess of Pale” she advocated glamour interiors decorated mostly in shades of white. She was born Gwendoline Maud Syrie Barnardo.
