History – over 3000 years of occupation. Whilst there is evidence of this site being inhabited in prehistoric times, the story of Whittington Castle begins soon after the Norman Conquest of 1066. It was likely built soon after the conquest as part of the marcher lord’s effort to secure the border between England and Wales.
School visits. Whittington Castle welcomes school groups for educational visits. Activities are linked to the National Curriculum and will always discuss your needs and learning objectives in advance. Visits generally last for four hours, usually from 10am – 2pm. We can accommodate groups for lunch at our Kitchen@TheCastle.
