Alvah Cecil Bessie (June 4, 1904 – July 21, 1985) was an American novelist, journalist and screenwriter who was blacklisted by the movie studios for being one of the Hollywood Ten who refused to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee.
The blacklist disappeared by the early 1960s, and Trumbo and Lardner subsequently wrote screenplays under their own names. Biography Alvah Bessie was born in New York City on June 4, 1904 to Daniel Nathan Cohen Bessie, a successful businessman and inventor, and Adeline Schlesinger. The younger of two boys, Bessie was raised in ease in the then-prosperous precincts of Harlem.
Alvah Bessie was born in New York on 4th June, 1904. After attending Columbia University he worked as an actor and stage manager in Massachusetts. In 1928 Bessie had his first short-story, Redbird, published. He worked for the New Yorker before his novel, Dwell in the Wilderness, appeared in 1935.
