- Gill Mantle. The gill mantle is a creature that lives in symbiotic companionship with the Na'vi that live close to the water. When bonded with a Na'vi, the gill mantle glows red, providing light, and can sting small creatures to repel them which the Na'vi appear to be immune to, and they act as an external lung that can help Na'vi to breathe and dive deeper under the water.
- Akula. The akula is similar to Earth's great white sharks and these predatory creatures attack with great ferocity. They have a three-pronged mouth that opens to expose teeth that are similar to a snake's long fangs.
- Tulkun. The tulkun are much more than an animal found in the Pandoran oceans. Similar in size to Earth's whales which have become extinct by the time of Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water, these creatures are extremely intelligent and could well be more intelligent than their humanoid counterparts.
- Skimwing. The skimwing is a more stubborn and temperamental breed of creatures than ilu but they are used by more experienced riders in the Metkayina clan.
- Mountain banshee (ikran) We kick off this list with the iconic banshee, the aerial ride used throughout the first movie by the Na’vi hunters and warriors.
- Hammerhead titanothere (angtsìk) Almost twice the size of a Terran elephant, the hammerhead is one of Pandora’s largest land herbivores. As seen in the original movie, these fairly social animals can be extremely territorial and use a beautiful display crest when confronted (and when competing for a mate too).
- Direhorse (pa’li) Direhorses are the go-to land rides used by the Na’vi warriors. Although they resemble Terran horses in appearance, their necks are longer, plus they have six legs and are roughly the size of an elephant.
- Great leonopteryx (toruk) Its Na’vi name (toruk) means “last shadow,” and with good reason: the great leonopteryx is the apex aerial predator of the Pandoran skies.

A vast range of fauna inhabit the world, ranging over virtually every landscape as well as the oceans and skies. Most of the animals presented are hybrids of two real world animals; sometimes this hybridization is explicit, at other times more subtle. Foggy Swamp
Due to the wet climate and abundant vegetation, the Foggy Swamp plays host to a large variety of fauna. Hundreds of living things are densely packed into the swamp; this includes swamp fireflies, elbow leeches, screeching dodos, and catgators.
Great Divide
The Great Divide has various species due to an arid climate. This unique area is home to certain creatures, such as the canyon crawlers.
Poles
The low temperatures in both the Northern and Southern Water Tribes do not allow for much fauna to thrive. However, there are some animals that have adapted to the cold environment, such as otter penguins, tiger seals, polar dogs, polar bear dogs, and buffalo yaks.

In Avatar, the Na'vi are an indigenous species that live on Pandora. They are humanoid in appearance and are 9 to 10 feet (2.7 to 3.0 m) tall, having pairs of eyes, ears, arms, legs and feet like humans, as well as a nose, a mouth, and expressions recognizable to humans.
