Rolling Stone reported that she died in 1982 from liver failure, but the official House of LaBeija website contends her death occurred in the mid-1990s. LaBeija died from organ failure, most likely caused by overuse of hormones, which were largely unregulated at the time.
There is little information surrounding Crystal’s death in the mid-90s from organ failure due to her extreme hormone regimen, however her legacy lives on. In “Paris Is Burning” her daughter Pepper pays homage - "I am Pepper LaBeija, legendary mother of the House of LaBeija.
