I specified what colors were added to each box. That way it is easy to see what box needs to be purchased to get a certain color.

    • Canary. This soft yellow perfectly captures the color of the famous singing bird. It’s a relatively new Crayola shade, too — it was only introduced in 1998.
    • Unmellow Yellow. Unlike many Crayola crayon names, “Unmellow Yellow” doesn’t really give you an idea of what this color looks like. It’s a vivid, sunny yellow with just a touch more orange than Crayola’s Yellow shade.
    • Green-Yellow. This aptly named color is a light, grassy shade that appears to be exactly half light green and half pale yellow. It’s very similar to spring green, but as you may have guessed, spring green has a higher proportion of green.
    • Yellow. Looking for the bright, pure shade of yellow you see on the color wheel? This is it. As one of the primary colors, yellow has been a Crayola shade since 1903 — the year Crayola drawing crayons were first introduced.
  2. All 16 Crayola Heads 'n Tails crayon colors. The eight Heads 'n Tails Crayons are double-sided and encased in plastic tubes that function much like the ones on Crayola Twistables. Each crayon has two shades of color, for a total of 16 colors, which are approximated by the background colors and hex RGB values below.

As the size of Crayola crayon packs increased, the variety of colors available also increased—reaching 120 colors in production by 1998. Since 1998, new colors have been added, but always replacing existing colors. In all, 50 colors have been retired, bringing the total number of regular colors produced to 170.

According to Crayola, they currently manufacture 120 standard crayon colors, which are all included in the regular 120-count box. This does not include specialty crayons like the Metallic FX, Gel FX and the glitter crayons, but does include fluorescent crayons.
