Founded in 1970 by Gary Olen, Sportsman’s Guide started out as a mail-order catalog business shipping fishing lures and hunting supplies nationwide. What began as a small operation run out of a basement has since grown into one of the largest online retailers of outdoor sporting goods in the country.
Sportsman's Guide sent out nine million catalogs in 1986, primarily to middle-income, blue collar men interested in hunting and the outdoors. Among the 16,000 items in the 88-page catalog were dart and stun guns, ninja stars and other martial arts weapons, inflatable beds and boats, and clothing.
Sportsman's Guide is an online retailer of hunting and fishing gear, military surplus, ammunition, and outdoor sporting goods. It is based in South St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. The company was founded by Gary Olen in 1970, and the first Sportsman's Guide catalogue was mailed in 1976.
