    Giulio Andreotti was born on January 14, 1919, in Rome, Italy. His father worked as a schoolteacher and his mother was a homemaker. Andreotti graduated from the Sapienza University of Rome with a degree in jurisprudence in 1941.

    Andreotti’s political career began in 1943 when he joined the Christian Democracy party. He was first elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1946. In 1947, he became the party’s general secretary.
