Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) in the US has awarded a $278.5m contract to Hyundai Rotem to deliver 80 double-deck coaches. The coaches will replace the single-deck coaches operating on the Boston commuter rail network. The move is expected to boost fleet capacity by 14,000 seats.
Hyundai Rotem was awarded a contract with Boston's MBTA in early 2008 for the construction of 75 cars. The contract entails the delivery of the first 4 cars by October 2010 while the remaining 71 cars were scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2012.
In 2019, Hyundai Rotem signed a 330 billion-won deal to supply 80 double-deckers to MBTA, with the supply scheduled to be completed this year. kyongae.choi@yna.co.kr (END)
