- Open Meetings Act Elected Appointed Members
The Open Meetings Act is a state law that requires that meetings of public bodies be open to the public except in certain specific, limited situations (discussed in more detail below) where the law authorizes the public body to close a meeting.
The Public Access Counselor provides electronic training to all elected and appointed officials and persons designated by public bodies to receive OMA training. Learn how to comply with OMA and access resources from the Attorney General's Office.
Each public body must designate employees, officers or members to receive training on compliance with the Open Meetings Act. The Public Access Counselor must provide an electronic training program for these individuals to take. These individuals must complete the Public Access Counselor electronic training annually.

As of January 1, 2012, elected and appointed members of public bodies are required to complete electronic training on the Open Meetings Act that is administered by the Illinois Attorney General's Public Access Counselor (PAC).
