On a knoll overlooking Silverado Vineyard, the Millers completed the winery in 1981. The inaugural crush was 135 tons under the first winemaker, Jack Stuart. In 1986, the Millers decided to highlight the extraordinary harvest with a unique bottling of the first vintage of Limited Cabernet Sauvignon.
Current winemaker Jon Emmerich overlapped with founding winemaker Jack Stuart for 8 years; Jon has been winemaker since Jack retired. While they produce Cabernet Sauvignon every year, their Limited Reserve wines are produced only when that year’s fruit quality is exceptional.

In 1990 Johnathan Emmerich joined the winemaking team as an enologist and then assistant winemaker. In 1998 John was named winemaker ahead of Jack’s retirement in 2004 assuring continuity of winemaking.
Jack has long been acknowledged as one of the best winemakers in Napa Valley, with accolades from The International Wine & Spirit Competition, the Wine Spectator, the Los Angeles Times, and others. Wines made under Stuart's tutelage have received numerous awards and regularly earn high ratings.
1/12/2000 - Jack Stuart, Winemaker and General Manager, Silverado Vineyards, has been elected president of the Napa Valley Vintners (NVV), one of the most prominent positions in the wine industry.
