Published by Eidos Interactive, this is the first game in the series not to be handled by British-based Core Design, developed instead by British-owned U.S. studio Crystal Dynamics. It serves as a reboot of the franchise, with a new incarnation of Lara Croft, and the first entry in the Legend Timeline.
Lara is just a young girl at the time, and her mother survives the crash along with her, only to vanish under mysterious circumstances. Throughout the game, Lara searches for the pieces of the fabled sword, Excalibur, which she hopes will help her get to the bottom of her mother's disappearance.
