He was the father of "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig, and the grandfather of Curtis Axel and Amy "Ms. Perfect" Hennig. He worked in the American Wrestling Association, National Wrestling Alliance, and the World Wide Wrestling Federation.

Dec 6, 2018 · In the latter years of his life, Hennig ran a realty and auction company out of St. Cloud. Just last month, Robbinsdale's Wicked Wort Brewery launched a beer named in honor of "Robbinsdale's Favorite Son" called "The Axe is Back." Both Hennig and the late Gagne were inducted into the Minnesota Wrestling Hall of Fame back in 2015.

Working mostly with the AWA, he became one of the top draws in the 1960s and '70s. First known as Pretty Boy Hennig, he later took on a new persona and became Larry "The Axe" Hennig.
