However, the dose is usually not more than 75 mcg once a day. Older adults—At first, 5 mcg once a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed.

When the amount of hormone is too low, taking thyroid replacement hormones can bring your levels back to normal.
Descriptions. Liothyronine is used to treat hypothyroidism, a condition wherein the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. It is also used to help decrease the size of enlarged thyroid glands (goiter) and treat thyroid cancer. Liothyronine is also used in some medical tests to help diagnose problems with the thyroid gland.

The usual starting dose of liothyronine for treating hypothyroidism is 5 to 25 mcg per day. The dose then is adjusted based on the patient's response and the blood levels of thyroid hormone.
LIOTHYRONINE SODIUM 5mcg. Drugs with thyroid hormone activity, alone or together with other therapeutic agents, have been used for the treatment of obesity. In euthyroid patients, doses within the range of daily hormonal requirements are ineffective for weight reduction.
