Nov 7, 1979 · Marietta Bitter, a harpist and the wife of Walter Abel, the actor, died of cancer yesterday at her home, 167 East 71st Street. She was 75 years old.
His brother Alfred died in 1922 from tuberculosis contracted while serving overseas in World War I. Abel was married to concert harpist Marietta Bitter. [2] Career. Abel as D'Artagnan, with Heather Angel in The Three Musketeers.
In 1926 Abel married Marietta Bitter, a concert harpist and daughter of the sculptor Karl Bitter. They had three sons. She died in 1979. Walter Abel died in a nursing home in Essex, Connecticut on March 26, 1987.

His wife, Marietta Bitter, was a concert harpist. Enjoyed one of the longest careers in Broadway history; active there from 1919 to late 1975 (see "Other Works"). Studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Art, in New York. Became a member of the Screen Actors Guild in late 1935.
